An Arrow Fold Card for autumn

This is a fun fold card – or what I like to call “Paper Engineering”.  The effect almost reminds me of a tuxedo with contrasting lapels highlighting a great looking suit!

You will be surprised at how easy this actually is because there isn’t a lot of cutting – just scoring and folding.  My version features the Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper (DSP) called Beauty of the Earth – and it is just beautiful!

Here are the cutting instructions for this 5” x 7” card:

 #MeasurementsScoreMark
Basic White Card Base17” x 10”Score at 5” on the long edge.Mark at 3-1/2” at the bottom edge. Mark at 2-1/2” along the left and right side of card base.
Beauty of the Earth DSP #114-3/4” x 6-1/2” Mark at 3-1/4” at the bottom edge.
Beauty of the Earth DSP #214-1/4” x 5-3/4” Mark at 2-7/8” at the bottom edge.
Gold Foil Enough for maple leaf die cut

Mark the Basic White Card Base panel as follows:

The first step is to score and fold the card base and create those tuxedo lapels:

  • Place the card base on a score board so that the center fold and the mark along the bottom edge are in the scoring track.  Score.
  • Move the card base so that the mark at the 2-1/2” mark on the side of the card and the middle mark on the bottom edge per the picture above.  Score.
  • Readjust the card base in the trimmer so that the score line at 5″ is now in the trimmer track and score.
  • Repeat on the other side of the card base with a score line from the 2-1/2″ mark to the center of the card bottom and then from the 5″ score line to that same center mark. Score.
  • Fold the upper score line into the card and burnish with a bone folder.
  • Then fold the lower score line toward the outside of the card.
  • Adhere the folds so that the card lies flat.

Cutting the triangular panels of DSP:

  • With the Stampin’ Up! Beauty of the Earth designer series paper pattern, place this paper in the Paper Trimmer and cut from the upper corner to the mark along the bottom edge.  Repeat on the other side.
  • Repeat this process with the smaller panel of DSP.  (Please note in the picture below, I photographed the opposite side of the DSP because I had marked these panels on the back. I didn’t use the green side, as you will see below.)

Adhere the 3 pieces of the DSP to the corresponding DSP mats and then glue them to the card base.

The rest of the process is decorating and stamping the sentiments.

I used “Grateful” from the Stampin’ Up! Sparkle of the Season stamp set and punched it out with the Tailored Tag punch.  I used some of the lighter area of the DSP that was used for the main panels.  It was a continuation of the color scheme but created a muted background for the sentiment.

The Stampin’ Up! Gold Foil sheet was die-cut using the large maple leaf die from the Intricate Leaves die set.  It was adhered to the top center panel of the card.

I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop the tag up and then used Gilded Gems to embellish the panel.

The inside message “You make a difference every day” is from the Stampin’ Up! Inspired Thoughts stamp set – which leaves enough space for a personal message.

As I looked at the card, it occurred to me that you could add a pocket for a gift card on the inside top of the card. Or it might be a good place for a sentiment label to hide that fold. Or a “medallion” that repeats the leaf decoration from the outside of the card to carry the theme inside would work too.

And we’re done!

Want to make this card in an alternative size?

Prefer to make the more customary, A2 card – 4-1/4” x 5-1/2”?  Here are the cutting measurements for that alternate size below:

#MeasurementsScoreMark
Basic White Card Base1  5-1/2” x 8-1/2”Score at 4-1/4”Mark at 2-3/4” at the bottom edge. Mark at 2-1/8” along the left and right side of card base.
Beauty of the Earth DSP #114” x 5” Mark at 2-1/2” at the bottom edge.
Beauty of the Earth DSP #213-3/4” x 4-1/2” Mark at 2-1/4” at the bottom edge.

Thanks so much for stopping in to take a look at today’s card!

Here are the supplies that I used for this project:

Do you need the “equipment” to work on your card? I’ve developed a list of some of the best cardmaking tools on the market from Stampin’ Up! And please let me know if you have any questions about any of these items. I own these – as well as several similar products from other manufacturers.

In fact, the quality of the equipment was the biggest reason that I decided to become a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator. Many of these were not the first to market…but when the company entered the market, the engineering and the features surpassed the competition – and the quality is outstanding.

Please let me know if I can help in any way – whether you already have a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator or not!
