Hanukkah Gift-Box Card with an embossing technique

Gift cards are all the thing – kids want them, college students want them, and I love them!  But when I give gift cards, I want them to be special.  In a time when you can do almost all your holiday shopping at a pharmacy’s gift card display, it’s important to make sure that the recipient knows that this gift is special and not just a quick errand on the way!

There are some awesome applications for this design.  But because of the short supply of Hanukkah cards that I see in the stores and even on the internet, I thought that this would be a great application!

Here are the measurements:

Technique:  Because I like splashy and sparkly cards and gifts, I decided that the Stampin’ Up! Misty Moonlight gift box was just a bit too plain for my taste.  So, I decided to dry emboss the box for some extra interest and joosh.  But I only wanted the front of the box to be embossed.

Using my Stampin’ Up! Parisian Flourish embossing folder, I placed the Misty Moonlight card base into the folder so that the upper panel was centered over the middle of the embossing folder.

I closed the folder carefully and then used a piece of washi tape to indicate roughly where the score line was.

Using my Stampin’ Cut and Emboss machine with the 3D embossing folder shim (which is included with the machine), I sent the “sandwich” through but stopped at the washi tape line and then reversed the machine.  This allowed only the front of the box to be embossed. 

Using Stampin’ Up! Tear and Tape, I sealed the sides of the gift base as closely to the edges as possible so that the “envelope” would be loose enough to let the message panel and a gift card (if you choose to include one) move freely. 

Using the white mats and the decorative strips, I prepared those to decorate the gift box sections and adhered them to the base and top.  You may be able to see that I added a bit more bling with a Wink of Stella pen on the raised surfaces of the embossed box.  But, of course, I didn’t stop there.  I continued to adorn the box with the Stampin’ Up! Subtle Shimmer Sequins for extra bling!

Then I placed the message card into the card base to be sure that I had in placed properly.  Once done, I was able to tape the message card to the gift box top as follows:

The rest of the card is all about the decoration! 

I used the message stamp from the Stampin’ Up!  Sparkle of the Season stamp set on the message card that is tucked into the box.  You may notice that I’ve used Versamark Ink and embossed the message with Stampin’ Up! Silver embossing powder.  (Blue and silver are exactly right for Hanukkah cards.)

But it seemed like the wrapped gift itself needed a tag and a bow.  The “Happy Hanukkah” message comes from the Snowflake Wishes stamp set and my bow uses the Stampin’ Up! Metallic Mesh Ribbon.  I made a double loop bow and then spent a little time fluffing it out!  (This could become my new “go to” ribbon because of all the possibilities it has for cool card decos!)

You can adhere a gift card to the back of the message card if that is your plan.  A couple of small glue dots would do the job well.

It is that quick!  Again, cutting the pieces is the most time-consuming task for this card – and then you have a very cute and novel present for your recipient(s)!

I need to thank my Stampin’ Up! teammate and colleague, Jaimie Babarczy, who presented the inspiration card in her YouTube video.  I just love the idea of this cute card and, as Jaimie said, it can be adapted for a lot of uses!  Expect to see some more versions of this in upcoming entries just to prove that point!
