Christmas can be a sentimental time – and obviously a religious time. But it is also a time for lightheartedness as well. This card was inspired by one that was made by Christine Verluis and a CAS’d version by Jacque Williams from New Zealand, using the Stampin’ Up! Whimsey and Wonder stamp set. It’s cute and unexpected – and truly fun!
I love cats too – and any of us who have had cats know that Christmas time can be a challenge for our feline friends…or for us… In fact, my daughter’s cat, Gracie, has presented some interesting and truly funny moments at my house:
Gracie liked to climb the artificial tree and the only way that you could see her was by the way the tree shook as she climbed up the trunk. In fact, it looked like the tree was trembling from the cold – it was hysterical to see!
Although Gracie hasn’t caused the untimely death of any ornaments (to the best of my knowledge), a few of our other cats have. So, this is in honor of those sweet, if infuriating, souls!
It’s an easy card to create – and I am sure that it will bring a smile to anyone who receives it!
Using the Stampin’ Up! Whimsey and Wonder stamp set, I used a mask to create partial ornament images. To do that, I simply used a post-it note to create these images:
With a thin black gel pen, I created the jagged edges of the ornament images that were masked by the Post it note.
Choose the colors that you like for Christmas and color the ornaments in. This is a fun card since you can do the stamping first on a batch of panels and then spend time coloring them in with a variety of colors – or just one pattern if you prefer!
I chose Stampin’ Blends in Passion Pink, Old Olive, and Misty Moonlight. The highlights in metallic ink are from gel pens that are not from Stampin’ Up! but are readily available from a variety of vendors like Amazon.
I tried to stay with a single stamp set for this card. So, I chose the sentiments and ornament image that are contained in the Stampin’ Up! Whimsey and Wonder stamp set. The only other image on this card is the cat who has created this mess of broken ornaments. He or she is punched from the Stampin’ Up! Cat punch.
The panel measurements are:
Measurements | Notes | |
Real Red cardstock base | 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” | Scored at the 4-1/4” mark |
Basic Black Cardstock mat | 4” x 5-1/4” | To mat the front panel |
Basic White cardstock | 4” x 5-1/4” | For inside panel |
Basic White cardstock | 3-3/4” x 5” | Front panel to be stamped and decorated |
Once the front panel is colored and the message on the inside panel is stamped, assemble the card and add some bling.
This is another card that could be made in batches and used as your Christmas card for the year! I am planning to use a few of these cards for the cat-lovers on my Christmas card list.
Why only a few, you query?
Well, I was working hard on my Christmas cards for last year – but life and work got in the way, and they were never completed. I’ve since finished them, and they are ready to go – exactly one year late!
Sound familiar? It happened to me more often than not! That is why I like to provide you with quick cards that you can make in a batch and satisfy that urge to create your own cards. But then spice it up with some “paper engineering” so that you can design and make that occasional masterpiece! If you are like me, you need both to satisfy your creative cravings!
If you are enjoying this card, I have provided my short list of materials below. If you are in need of a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator – or just another creative soul to answer a question, I would be delighted to help. Just let me know!
In the meanwhile, create from your heart!
This is such a cute idea. I just might have to case it.
Oh – I love this card! As a cat person – I’ve had that cat-in-a-tree experiences WAY more than once! We put the tree BACK up 5 times one year before we wised up and tied the top with fishing line to a hook in the ceiling! 🤦♀️ I really love the ragged bottoms of the ornaments with the oh-so-innocent (pretty-sure-the-dog-did-it) kitty sitting casually underneath! 🙂
