Many Layered Blossoms lined with Vellum

I was so sad to see that Stampin’ Up Blossoms in Bloom and Many Layered Blossoms Dies are being retired.  I love that bundle and I particularly love the dies.  With the first signs of spring – even up here in cold New Hampshire – I wanted to encourage the warm breezes and the beautiful blossoms.  Also, my beautiful daughter had a birthday on the 16th and I love to create a very special card for her!

I was very pleased with the result – and so, of course, I created it in a number of colors and for several occasions, in addition to the birthday card.  (Remember – designing it is the hard part.  Recreating it with different colors, sentiments, and papers is the easy part!)

Here are the paper cuts:

Stampin’ Up So Saffron cardstock15-1/2” x 6-1/2”Scored on the long side at 4-1/4”.  This will create the half front panel.
Stampin’ Up! Basic White Cardstock14” x 5-1/4”Inside panel.
Stampin’ Up! Vellum cardstock  12” x 5-1/4”For mat on card face.
Stampin’ Up! Basic White Cardstock Scraps for the large Blossoms die cut (at least 4-1/4” x 5-1/2”)  Smaller scrap pieces for the smaller die cuts and the sentiment die cut.
Stampin’ Up! So Saffron Cardstock  14-1/4” x 5-1/2”
Stampin’ Up! Vellum cardstock14-1/4” x 5-1/2”)This is the panel that the blossom dies cut layers will be mounted on.

Let’s start with the inside panel.  I spent more time on the inside panel than I usually do.  Using the Stampin’ Up! Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder, I embossed the Basic White inside panel to add some texture and interest.  But it still looked a bit too white…but nothing that a little bit of So Saffron ink applied very lightly with Blending Brushes.

But then, of course, the sentiment needed to be put on a label since I dry embossed the inner panel too soon.  Although I used the Stampin’ Up! Stitched so Sweetly Dies (which are one of my infamous “investment” pieces), the large label die from the Peaceful Moments Bundle.  The sentiment for both the inside and the outside of the card come from this same, awesome bundle.

Time to make the “medallion” for the card face.  Cut the So Saffron cardstock using the thicker die and Basic White cardstock using the thinner, outline die.  Glue the layers together.

Once these layers are together, it is time to adhere the medallion to the Stampin’ Up! Vellum card stock piece.  Fussy cut the vellum panel around the flowers.  I have seen pictures of other cards made like this – with the vellum lining the design – and they are pretty.  But in person, the effect is just elegant!

Adhere the 2” x 5-1/4” panel to the top front of the card.  Then mount the medallion to the top of the card face.

Be sure to cut 2 of the smaller flower dies as well because they will trim the sentiment label.  Add the sentiment label to the card face with a little bit of Gray Granite ¼” Shimmer Ribbon and the 2 small flower, layered die cuts.  I used the yellow Stampin’ Up! Genial Gems to bling it up!

My daughter’s favorite color combination is yellow and gray – and I have to agree with that.  This card was so much fun to make and the vellum-lined floral medallion is truly eye-candy!

I find that, while I am working on a card, my mind is busy exploring other options…and so it was with this card.

The colors that I used included Stampin’ Up! Blushing Bride, Petal Pink, Soft Seafoam (one of my all-time favorite colors!), and Balmy Blue.  The card is elegant enough for other occasions that call for a Easter and even for a wedding – it’s that pretty!

Thanks for looking in today!  Please order this beautiful bundle before May 4th and it retires.  It really is an “investment” piece for your collection!

If you have any questions, please let me know – I’ll be happy to answer or to brainstorm with you.  If you need a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, I’m happy to help you with that too!

Here is a list of the items that I used for the original card:

Thanks so much, Amy! Isn’t this die set an overlooked thing of beauty? I love the possibilities for casual styles as well as elegance…and even though it’s retiring, there appears to be a similar vibe with the upcoming Layering Hollyhocks die set. This current one is a lovely round cluster of blooms while the upcoming one looks more like a spray of flowers…love, love, love! Thanks so much for checking this out today!!

Oh, Mary – I had a lot of trouble ending the project with all of the beautiful color possibilities that my Stampin’ Up! card stock offers! A friend of mine has a daughter who is newly engaged – another great use for this beautiful die set. Although they haven’t decided on their wedding colors yet, she loves red…so I’m thinking that a red version is in the offing!! And we have several beautiful reds and pinkish-reds to choose from. Thanks so very much for looking in on me today!

Thanks so much, Carol! That color thing just seems to happen as we work on a card design, doesn’t it? (Ok, maybe it just happens to obsessive people, like me… 🙂 )
