A blast from the past…along with an update with Nature’s Prints

The most fun part about cardmaking is our ability to reinvent a design any time we sit down to create the next card.  Long ago (2018, I believe), I made this “Impossible Card” using Stampin’ Up!’s Love What You Do stamp set and the designer series paper from that bundle, Share What You Love.

What makes an impossible card, I hear you query.  This card with the pop-up feature is made from a single sheet of cardstock!  How can that be?  A flat sheet of cardstock becomes a pop-up card.

Amazing, isn’t it?  Let’s look at the new version using the Stampin’ Up! Sun Prints DSP and Nature’s Prints stamps:

And now using current products!

And it is not particularly complicated.  So, let’s take a look.

Here is what the original Love What you Do stamp set and the DSP looked like:

But my directions here will use a current bundle and will make a couple of minor changes to strengthen the card structure.

Here are the card cuts:

Please see the templates for the scoring and cuts below.  They include all the measurements needed for an A2 card.

Card base template.
Templates for DSP and mat layers.

To create the card base, hold the large center panel while folding the right side toward you.  Burnish all the fold lines.  Then fold the large center panel toward you as well and burnish.  This is the secret to the card.

Once the base is folded and scored, mount the L-shaped DSP panels to their white mats – and then to the card base.

I stamped the sentiment panels with sentiments from the Stampin’ Up! Charming Sentiments stamp set and used the fern stamp to decorate the panels.  The fern stamp is from the Nature’s Prints stamp set and Night of Navy ink.

The smaller bands were stamped with sentiments from the same Charming Sentiments and the Nature’s Prints fern image.  I used the Everyday Labels punch to shape each band because – well, I am lazy and die cutting would have been more work…

But, in my defense, this is another great use for all the Stampin’ Up! punches!  They are not one-trick ponies!

I love that all my favorite Fancy Fold cards can to translated into our current designs!

I decided to enter the updated design into the Creative Creases Challenge #38. This is always a fun challenge and a great source of inspiration for those of us who enjoy a little bit of Paper Engineering!

There is a wonderful challenge at Retro Rubber Challenges #188 where the entries need to have “vintage” stamps included in the design.

Hence, this original card!

My original card dates back to 2018 – which qualifies according to this challenge’s rules.  I was so excited to find this one as I have so many cards dating back to my earlier days of stamping!  Many of them were Stampin’ Up! products, as I have used these excellent quality products for almost two decades.  But others are from a variety of other wonderful materials.

What do you have in your crafting stash and card boxes?  I bet that there are treasures there.  And if you’re a beginner, make an extra card in the design that you love and put it away.  They are fun to review and even more fun to CASE!  (Copy and selectively edit.)

Here is the materials list for the card that I made using current products:
