As I have said in the past, I love playing with all the beautiful Stampin’ Up! Designer Series papers – and we have some gorgeous Christmas and other winter holiday papers this year from last year’s carryover as well as the current Mini Catalog – July – December 2022.
This card design is quick and easy to do. I like doing this design with all my larger scraps of DSP. The trick is to remember that you need a centerpiece design and then this chic design makes a great background. Please note that I think the addition of a little more bling makes this festive and in the spirit of the holiday season.
Here are the card cuts:
# | Measurements | Notes | |
Stampin’ Up! Real Red Card Stock | 1 | 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” | Scored along the long side at 4-1/4”. |
Stampin’ Up! Basic White Card Stock | 2 | 4” x 5-1/4” | Panel for inside sentiment and front split panel. |
Stampin’ Up! Boughs of Holly DSP | 1 | 4” x 5-1/4” | Panel for card face. |
I have found 2 ways to do the diagonal split card front. You can use the template below to mark the card.
Make sure that you align the marks as shown along the cutting track on your paper trimmer. Once you have cut the strips, be sure to erase your marks.
BUT, if you are like I am and you have decided to do a batch of them, consider my easier cutting trick:
When I work on a batch of cards for a swap or for Christmas cards, I generally “mark” my paper trimmer with 2 different washi tape patterns so that I do not have to think about it. I can zip through the cutting and get on to the decorating!
I also like to add texture to the Basic White cardstock by embossing it with the Stampin’ Up! Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder. There is a rich, vintage feel to this textural embossing.
The other detail that I like on this design is the “lining” inside the diagonal cut. For this card, I used scraps of Gold Glimmer 12” x 12” Specialty Paper and glued a strip along the edge of the DSP. I think that it increases the bling factor of a holiday card – and, honestly, if you do not go all out on the winter holiday cards with heavy gold, silver, rhinestone bling, what other season allows it?
I have chosen a sentiment for the card face and for the inside of the card from the Stampin’ Up! Brightest Glow bundle. (Be sure to stamp first if you have decided to emboss the card face!)
The medallion is a fussy-cut poinsettia that covers from the Boughs of Holly Designer Series Paper. I love to fussy cut while I do other, more inert activities like watching TV or listening to a webinar…
I apparently got a bit carried away…or perhaps I was just planning for a significant set of Christmas cards! Let’s go with that…
But here is something that I think is important. I used that special Shimmer Spritz on these poinsettias. I gave them a good spray of the mist that I used in earlier cards link https://stampin2die4.com/2022/10/24/a-canopy-of-soft-seedlings/
I arranged the floral medallion for the front of the card, adhered the inside of the card, and added some golden bling to finish the design.
Although I love the red and white of this color scheme, there are plenty of other, wonderful combinations for this card design.
Add some Stampin’ Up! Champagne Rhinestones to the face of the card and this will be a memorable greeting that is Mantle-worthy.
There are several Designer Series Paper offerings in the Mini Catalog and the Annual Catalog for 2022-2023? that would be excellent choices. Just use the listing of the colors that each design incorporates, and you do not even have to stress over the selection of the right cardstock!
