A few days late…but how can you NOT keep creating with those Adorable Owls?

I know…Sale-a-bration is gone.  But how many of us still await our final order from a week or so ago and just KNOW that there may be a parliament of Adorable Owls in that box?

Yes.  That’s right.  Several owls are not a flock, or a bunch, or a group.  They are a parliament.  Whooo knew?

And, of course, I paired my now-retired owls with some now-retired Designer Series Paper – also from Sale-a-brationDandy Designs.  This has to be some of the best paper for creating fun, uplifting cards to say hello, or happy birthday, or happy new baby…all kinds of ways to bring a smile to the face of a recipient.

I must apologize.  I have been away for almost two weeks.  A business meeting and then an adventure of a lifetime with my son, as he looked for a new apartment to live in for his new job in a place 1,100 miles away – in Jacksonville, Florida.  Of everyone who could have been his travel-buddy, how awesome is it that he asked me to help him on this next chapter of his life?

So, I created on paper while we were away.  I have found that even planning cards to make is a great hobby that allows me to relax and refresh myself.  This is one of those cards.

It is pretty simple…just adorable and easy to assemble.  Here are the card cuts:

Stampin’ Up! Basic White Card Stock15-1/2” x 8-1/2”Scored along the long edge at 4-1/4”.
Stampin’ Up! Fresh Freesia Cake Card Stock14” x 5-1/4”Inside mat.
Stampin’ Up! Basic White Card Stock13-3/4” x 5”Inside message panel.
Stampin’ Up! Fresh Freesia Cake Card Stock12-1/4” x 5-1/4”Mat for card face.
Stampin’ Up! Basic White Card Stock12” x 5”Mat for card face.  I embossed this with the Stampin’ Up! Basics 3D embossing folder using the crosshatch design.
Stampin’ Up! Fresh Freesia Card Stock13-1/2” x 3-1/2”Square mat for card face.
Stampin’ Up! Dandy Designs DSP13-1/4” x 3-1/4”Square panel for card face.
Stampin’ Up! Dandy Designs DSP1½” x 5”For border panel on the message panel inside.
Stampin’ Up! Fresh Freesia Card Stock13” x 3” scrapUse this scrap to die cut the scalloped circle from the Layering Circle Die Set.  I used the 2nd largest scalloped die.
Stampin’ Up! Basic White Card Stock13” x 3” scrapUse this scrap to die cut a plain circle from the Layering Circle Die set.  I used the 3rd largest circle for this.
Stampin’ Up! Basic White Card Stock1ScrapUse this scrap to die cut a stitched circle from the Stylish Shapes Die Set.  I used the 4th largest circle for this cut.

I like to lay the pieces out so that I am sure that I have gotten them all.  Then all that is left is to stamp, color, and glue!

  1. Assemble the outside mats and glue them to the card face with the long rectangle along the left side of the card and the square mats lined up on the right side (at about 1/8”).
  2. Stamp the larger Basic White Circle with the image of the owl in flight from the Stampin’ Up! Adorable Owls stamp set, using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
  3. Color the owl using Light and Dark Gray Granite blender pens for his body.  I used the Dark Fresh Freesia blender pen for his eyes and the Light Pale Papaya for his nose and feet.  (No smart remarks about violet-colored eyes!  Elizabeth Taylor supposedly had violet eyes…just sayin’)
  4. Glue the owl medallion to the card face.
  5. Stamp the “Hello” sentiment from the Stampin’ Up! Irresistible Blooms stamp set, using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
  6. Adhere the message circle toward the bottom of the card.
  7. Of course, we need some bling!  I used Pearl Basic Jewels colored with a Dark Fresh Freesia blender pen to get a perfect match to the papers used.  But you can also “paint” Rhinestone Basic Jewels as well so that you have sparkle as well as color!

The inside of the card is a simple task too:

  1. Stamp the Basic White card panel with the sentiment from the Irresistible Blooms stamp set.
  2. Adhere the strip of Dandy Designs along the bottom border of the panel.
  3. Glue the completed Basic White panel to the Fresh Freesia 4” x 5-1/4” mat.
  4. Making sure that your panel is oriented correctly, glue it to the inside of the card…and voila!!

Cards do not come together much easier than this one!  The extra cool thing is that you can use a variety of the Dandy Designs DSP patterns along with their coordinating cardstock to make this card over and over with different looks and different messages!

Please forgive my absence, in the meanwhile.  I will be trying to catch up and offer you some of the fun cards that I have designed while away in the upcoming week.

Thanks so much for looking in on my card and me today!  Here are the supplies that I used:

Fresh Freesia is one of the best colors, isn’t it, Amy? So fresh and crisp…and it complements so many other colors as well! Thanks!

I’d LOVE a parliament of owls to live around me – we have a few but…not sure they’re ready to rule! ;). Your card is just darling – and I love this layout very much! 🙂

Me too, Mary!!! I have always loved owls…and have an fairly substantial statue of an owl near my fireplace. His name is Randolph…perhaps this little guy is an offspring??
