A Rainbow for a Watercolor World

One of the stamps in the Jan-April Mini catalog that can easily be overlooked – and shouldn’t be – is the Watercolor World mega stamp.  I found that it works best on a 5” x 7” card – but I am also thinking about some A2 cards where the map fades off the sides.  I am thinking that you will be seeing a few cards with this stamp, as I think that I am falling in love with it after designing this first one!

The paper cuts are very easy – although I will confess to loving multiple mats and the dimension that they offer.

Stampin’ Up! Daffodil Delight Card Stock24-3/4” x 6-3/4”This will make the mats for the inside and outside of the card.
Stampin’ Up! Basic White Card Stock24-1/2” x 6-1/2”Card face and message panel.
Stampin’ Up! Basic Black Card Stock ScrapThese are for the “Sending” die cut and the mat for the message on the card face.
Stampin’ Up! Basic White Card Stock ScrapThis is for the “shadow” of the “Sending” sentiment.
  1. Using the Stamparatus to hold the stamp in place for multiple presses, center the stamp so that it fits well on the 4-1/2” x 6-1/2” Basic White panel.  Start with the Sweet Sorbet ink and daub it along the Alaska/west coast US and South America.  If the first press is not dark enough, daub a bit more on and press again.
  2. Work across the globe using Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Parakeet Party, Tahitian Tide, Gorgeous Grape, and Orchid Oasis ink.  Because the Stamparatus holds the stamp steady, it is possible to get each strip to look the way you want it to look.
  3. When the panel is complete, emboss the panel using the Timeworn Type embossing folder.  Because the panel is wide, make the first press with the folder.  Then place the unembossed section of the card back into the folder, lining it up with the type.  Even if the embossing overlaps, the second press will complete the panel and no line will show.
  4. Cut the “Sending” die cut from the Sending Smiles Bundle using the Basic Black Card Stock, as well as the Basic White Card Stock shadow, and assemble using liquid glue.
  5. Stamp the small sentiment on the scrap of Basic Black card stock with Versamark Ink and using the white powder from the Basics Embossing Powder set.  Use the Heat Tool to set the powder.
  6. Die cut the sentiment using the tag die from the Sending Smiles bundle.
  7. Adhere the sentiment strip to the front of the card.  Using Dimensionals, adhere the “Sending” die cut so that it pops up.
  8. Adhere the map image on one of the Daffodil Delight mats and then on to the face of the Sweet Sorbet card base.
  9. Using Gray Granite ink, make an image of the Watercolor World on the inside panel.  Because it came out a little darker, I did a second press using Whisper White ink to soften the image.
  10. Stamp the sentiment to the inside of the card.  It is a stamp from Hydrangea Haven Stamp Set, which seemed like the perfect message.
  11. Mount the inside Basic White panel on to the Daffodil Delight panel – and then into the card base.

You can see on this close up how much interest the Timeworn Type Embossing adds to the card – and it is very clear in person.

I have been wanting to create some cards with Watercolor World and I was inspired by the Can you Handle the Pressure Challenge.  This week, it is Anything Goes with a Twist of Rainbows – and boom…a rainbow colored world sounded like the right thing!

As I was working on this card, I had so many great ideas for some additional cards using the Watercolor World stamp.  Wouldn’t it be perfect for a retirement card?  Or a congratulations card?  Or even a Bon Voyage card?

Thanks so much for checking in on my card for the day!  I hope that it inspires you to take a look at this stamp.  I think that it has a lot of potential!!

I know, Mary, right? I almost overlooked this one…but I had some cards that I knew that I was going to need that related to a couple going to Europe on their honeymoon and I thought that this would be so cool! I have a couple of other designs coming soon as well.

Thank you so much, Darlene!! And thank you for these awesome challenges. They are often therapeutic as all of us tend to get stuck in our own creative habits. But part of creativity is solving the puzzles that you folks set for us. Thanks so much!
