A Split Diagonal Card with Texture Chic DSP

I love playing with all the beautiful Stampin’ Up! Designer Series papers – once I get over my innate reluctance to cut into them!  We have so many beautiful DSP paper packs with the new 2022-2023 Annual Catalog as well as the continuing Jan-June Mini Catalog

This card design is quick and easy to do.  I like doing this design with all my larger scraps of DSP.  The trick is to remember that you need a centerpiece design and then this chic design makes a great background.

Here are the card cuts:

 #MeasurementsNotes
Stampin’ Up! Soft Succulent Card Stock15-1/2” x 8-1/2”Scored along the long side at 4-1/4”.
Stampin’ Up! Basic White Card Stock14” x 5-1/4”Panel for inside sentiment.
Stampin’ Up! Petal Pink Card Stock14” x 5-1/4”Panel for card face.
Stampin’ Up! Texture Chic DSP14” x 5-1/4”Diagonal panel for the card face.
Stampin’ Up! Petal Pink Card StockScraps These are for the floral accents and embellishments on the card face.
Stampin’ Up! Soft Succulent Card StockScraps These are for the leaves on the card face.

I have found 2 ways to do the diagonal split card front.  You can use the template below to mark the card.

Make sure that you align the marks as shown along the cutting track on your paper trimmer.  Once you have cut the strips, be sure to erase your marks.

BUT, if you are like I am and you have decided to do a batch of them, consider my easier cutting trick:

When I work on a batch of cards for a swap or for customer appreciation cards, I generally “mark” my paper trimmer with 2 different washi tape patterns so that I do not have to think about it.  I can zip through the cutting and get on to the decorating!

The other detail that I like on this design is the “lining” inside the diagonal cut.  For this card, I used scraps of Soft Succulent and glued a strip along the edge of the DSP.  I think that it increases the chic of the Texture Chic DSP!  However, it is truly optional – so do not go crazy if you don’t have scraps that can work for you.  I have seen others do a similar card without this trim piece and it looks great.  It is just preference!

This is the facade for the second card! I forgot to take a picture of the featured card front at this stage…whoops…

I have chosen a sentiment for the card face and for the inside of the card from the Stampin’ Up!            set.  (Be sure to stamp first if you have decided to emboss the card face!)

Assemble your medallion.  I have used the Happiness Abounds stamp set and the Blossoming Happiness Dies for all my decorations.  I stamped the flower on Petal Pink cardstock and the leaves on Soft Succulent cardstock with Versamark Ink and then used the Stampin’ Up! Gold Embossing powder to heat set.  Although I decided to fussy cut these pieces, the die set has the dies to coordinate with these stamps and you can get that cutting done 1-2-3!

I arranged the floral medallion for the front of the card, adhered the inside of the card, and added some golden bling to finish the design.

Want another idea for this pretty design:

I used a different piece of the designer series paper from the Texture Chic DSP pack.  My medallion on the card face is from my beloved Stampin’ Up! Friends are like Seashells Bundle.  See how that worked with a different sheet of paper?

Oh…and how about a blast from the past with the retired Pansy DSP, which sadly is no longer available.

I would bet that some of the new Hues of Happiness DSP would be a great substitute for this DSP. And thankfully, the Pansy Patch bundle is continuing in the 2022-2023 Catalog!

Can’t you see this card with a bunch of the other great sets that we now have in the Mini Catalog and the Annual Catalog for 2022-2023

This is an A2 card (4-1/4” x 5-1/2”) for notes to friends and family.  I use these for thank you notes and other messages to touch base.  But I prefer 5” x 7” cards for occasion cards – birthdays, anniversaries, and the holidays.  But this lovely A2 card would be a beautiful birthday greeting and certainly has enough space for a personal note as well.

Stay tuned for my upcoming entry that will feature this same Split Diagonal card design EXCEPT for a landscape card in the 5” x 7” format.  Sometimes the DSP pattern has a larger format itself which makes it spectacular for the larger card!

Thanks so much, Amy! I love this design because it works so well with all of the STampin Up DSP. But I especially love finding that shortcut as I get annoyed and then careless when I have to measure. Give me a washi tape boundary and I am a maniac!! Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Beautiful cards. But something weird happened to the text next to the pictures with the trimmer. Couldn’t read it.

    • Susan says:

Oh, Phyllis – I see that weird thing in my email and on my phone app…drat…I will check into it. Thanks so much for the alert! The website is ok…but that really isn’t the point. We all want to have all devices looking right!

please could you let me have instructions for the larger card as this one does not fit a C2 envelope in the UK which is 6 x 4 inches.. Tks (love the card)

Hi, Hilary – I’m thrilled that you love this card!! Give me a couple of days to resize it for you and I’ll publish the chart…in fact, I will probably add it to this blog post and I can email an alert to you!!!
