Sympathy with the Look of a Stained Glass Window

You may recall that I offered an Easter card that used the Stampin’ Up! Two-Tone Flora bundle as the main part of the design.  That gorgeous bundle has a full panel, lacy die that creates a flurry of flowers and leaves.  Another classic!

But when the die cut is used on Designer Series Paper, it is even more amazing!

I am revisiting that technique today because, well, I unfortunately tore one of the images that I was die cutting.  I always try to use every square inch of DSP.  Sometimes, I cut too close to an edge and the panel is not usable for that day’s design.  I usually toss the “spoiled” die cut into a drawer to use another day – but then I don’t.

But I did today!  Here are the card cuts:

Stampin’ Up! Fancy Flora Card Stock14-1/4” x 5-1/2”This size is sufficient to die cut the lacy panel from the Stampin’ Up! Two-Tone Flora die cut.   Or you can use a piece that is a little bit smaller and sized closer to the opening.

1. Die cut the card face with the largest circle from the Stylish Shapes Die set to create the “stained glass” window.

2. Using the crosshatch pattern from the Basics 3D Embossing Folder pack, dry emboss the portion of the card that will be the front panel.  To do this, insert the card face only into the embossing folder, with the inside panel hanging out of the end.  Carefully run this through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine or any other machine that uses thin dies.

3. Place the lace panel into the circle cut out and adhere when you find the section of the panel that you like most.  Use liquid glue to do this so that there is some “open” time where the panel may be adjusted.

4. Take the Basic White layer and place it into the card.  Be sure that the card folds well and then adhere the panel so that it creates a background for the window panel as well as the message area.

5. Glue the strip of Fancy Flora DSP along the lower edge of the message area.

6. Stamp the sympathy sentiment from the Peaceful Moments stamp set, using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

7. Use the Lasting Label Punch to create the sentiment panel and emboss this with the crosshatch embossing folder as well.

8. Mount the sentiment panel using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

9. “Paint” the Pearl Basic Jewels with the Dark Fresh Freesia Blender pen and add some subtle bling to the card face.

While there are many great sentiments for the inside of the card using current sets or many of the retired sets, I chose to leave the inside blank.

Stampin' Up! Peaceful Moments

I always write a note after a couple of weeks or even months have passed.  I remember when my father died that it was very difficult for all of us long after his death.  And I also remember that I was very sad and even angry that it seemed like everyone went back to their lives – except me.

I do not like to think that anyone else feels that way, though they probably do.  So, I send a card later to remind them that someone else does remember and understands.

This card was a “save” for sure – as I had messed up the panel.  I just had not ruined the ENTIRE panel.  And I am so pleased that it is being used to create a message of comfort!

My scraps drawer is already too comfortable – and needs more thinning out!

Thank you for taking a look at this card!  Please remember to look through your stash of paper gems – and you may very well find other images that would be wonderful in this design!

It is a short list of supplies:
