I know, I know…this is a Mother’s Day card, and it is wayyyyy too late for that. However, I think that these beautiful little pansies will offer a great birthday wish – or a thank you – or even a wedding wish. They are so subtle and so pretty that their sweet faces need to be seen more. I can promise you that my renewed exploration of this great set of stamps and dies will be appearing in other configurations in the upcoming posts.
But for now, I decided to stick with mostly white with accents of very saturated colors. In this case, I have decided to use Polished Pink (now retired) and Lost Lagoon. However, Melon Mambo would be a great substitute for the pink – and it is part of the Brights Collection.
The card cuts are simple:
# | Measurements | Notes | |
Stampin’ Up! Basic White Card stock | 1 | 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” | Scored along the long edge at 4-1/4”. |
Stampin’ Up! Polished Pink (or Melon Mambo) Card Stock | 2 | 4” x 5-1/4” | For mats on the front and inside of card. |
Stampin’ Up! Basic White Card Stock | 2 | 3-3/4” x 5” | For the sentiment inside and the front design panel. Emboss one of these panels with the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing folder. |
Stampin’ Up! Basic White Card Stock | Scraps | To create the pansy bits. | |
Stampin’ Up! Polished Pink (or Melon Mambo) Card Stock | Scraps | To create the banner for the outside sentiment. |
- Cut several sets of the pansy pieces using the Pansy Dies. I did a lot of them because, once I am on a roll with the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss Machine, I just keep going because I know that I will make more than just one card! (They are like potato chips to me!)
2. Using a Blending Brush, I lightly colored each of the pansy petals with Polished Pink or Melon Mambo ink. Remember to use a light touch because you can always darken the color. But once it’s on the card stock, it is hard to lighten it without ruining the card finish.
3. Color the leaves and stems lightly with the same Blending Brush technique, using Lost Lagoon ink.
4. Emboss one of the smaller Basic White panels with the Timework Type 3D embossing folder.
5. Assemble the pansies separately and then mount the “arrangement” on the embossed mat.
6. The greeting that I used comes from Celebrating You (retired) for Mother’s Day. However, I would use the Pansy Patch stamp set sentiments for a birthday card as this set has appropriate sentiments for the occasion.
7. Use the Stylish Shapes Dies to create the banner and die cut the shape after stamping the sentiment on a scrap of Basic White cardstock. Cut a larger banner from the Melon Mambo cardstock scrap.
8. Once you adhere the banner and its mat to the embossed panel, cut off any part that overhangs so that it is even with the mat.
9. Mount the decorated mat to the Polished Pink or Melon Mambo mat – and then the mat to the card base.
10. Stamp the second Basic White panel with the sentiment. Mine is from the Pansy Patch stamp set.
11. Mount the sentiment mat to the Polished Pink or Melon Mambo mat and glue them to the inside of the card base.
Everything matches pearls so I used Iridescent Pearl Basic Jewels for a tiny bit of bling.
And that’s it!
I think that the subtle blush on these pansy faces is so pretty! And it is so different from the standard pansy with their deeply saturated colors. Not that I don’t like the deeper colors! It’s just that this is unexpected!
I have also decided to enter this card into the Can You Handle the Pressure – Anything Goes with a Twist of Floral Challenge for this round. I love challenges, as you know, and this design fits the criteria perfectly!
I hope that you enjoyed this design – and can see how it would offer some wonderful greetings for a variety of occasions. This is a list of the items that I have used for this card today:
