Have a peachy birthday on this last day of summer with Stampin’ Up! Sweet Ice cream

This may be the last day of summer – but I refuse to accept it just yet!  So, this ice cream cone birthday card is one shot at refusing to believe that it could be true…

I like fall very much.  But what I hate about fall is that it means that it will be getting cold and gray and icy soon.  It’s the light that bothers me the most – or the lack of full sunlight. Oh, and all of the seasonal ice cream stands close up here in New Hampshire…it’s a travesty.

But wait.  It’s still summer…today.  It’s still warm and the sun is streaming through my windows.  So, let’s get some ice cream!

This card uses a truly fun stamp set – Stampin’ Up! Sweet Ice Cream and lots of pastel tones in a rainbow ice cream cone with lots of sprinkles.  I chose one of my favorite colors of the season – Pale Papaya – which is a beautiful peachy color for the base.  And because there are SO many delicious ice cream scoops on it, this card is a Slimline Card measuring 3-1/2” x 8-1/2”.  It will tower over those “other” cards that your friend will receive!!

Here are the measurements for the card:

 CutScore
Pale Papaya – Card base7” x 8-1/2”At 3-1/2” on the 7” edge
Blushing Bride Cardstock – Mat2-7/8” x 8”
Basic White – Inside Panel3-1/8” x 8-1/4”
Basic White – Front Panel2-5/8” x 7-3/4”
Basic White Cardstock for stamping and punching

This is a super simple and super fun card to make – and to receive!  And it only uses one stamp set.

  • Using the sprinkles stamp from the Stampin’ Up Sweet Ice Cream stamp set, I stamped on the Pale Papaya card base to get a tone-on-tone effect around the edges that will peek out from under the decorated panels.  It offers a little bit of texture and richness.
  • Using the ice cream scoop images from the set, I stamped a LOT of images on some of my Basic White scraps that I’ve saved from other projects using the ice cream scoop images from the stamp set.
  • I used Blushing Bride, Pale Papaya, Daffodil Yellow, Granny Apple Green, Balmy Blue and Fresh Freesia for my scoops.  Do you need so many?  I don’t know…but I did!
  • The ice cream cone was stamped with Crumb Cake ink.  I used a stamping-off technique for the cone itself.  (If you haven’t heard of this technique, it’s very easy:  ink up your stamp as you normally would and do the first image on a piece of scrap paper.  The second press is the one to use because it is toned down quite a bit.)
  • The crosshatch stamp in this set adds a great touch for all of us who just love sugar cones.  This was done with the first press of Crumb Cake so that it stands out but is the same color as the cone
  • The Ice Cream Cone builder punch makes it easy and quick to punch the scoops and the cone shapes.  (Cute card and NO fussy cutting!  Doesn’t get much better!)

Adhere the front panels to the front of the card and then arrange the scoops in a descending rainbow order with Stampin’ Dimensionals

  • I used a Wink of Stella pen to add some sparkle to the front of the card and to the scoop inside.  Add some Stampin’ Up! Genial Gems for even more icy sparkle.
  • Then I stamped more of the Basic White scraps with the Pale Papaya sprinkles for the Happy Birthday banner.  The sentiment came from the same Sweet Ice Cream set and I used Crumb Cake ink to stamp it.
  • The banner was cut down to a 7/8” strip because I didn’t want to cover up too much of the ice cream underneath.  I used the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch for the edges and adhered it around the middle of the ice cream scoop pile.

The inside message panel has another sentiment from the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set.  I repeated the Pale Papaya sprinkles where the sentiment was stamped…just because!  And with a quick repetition of a single scoop ice cream cone in the lower corner, my message panel was complete! This card size uses a #10 business-sized envelopes.

The color scheme from this card was inspired by the Fusion Peach Birthday challenge:

I love rainbows and the only thing that I care to find at the end of my rainbow is ice cream!  So, my peach birthday card features that beautiful peachy backdrop, rainbows, and ice cream birthday celebrations.  Thanks so much to my friends there who create these challenges and inspire us!  This one was so much fun – because summer (and rainbows) should never end!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!
