An Autumn Card filled with Gratitude

This is an autumn card that uses some unexpected colors – although the design goes together quickly.  Stampin’ Up!’s Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Papers offers some beautiful autumn themes with those unexpected blues.

The measurements are not at all complicated:

Basic White cardstock5-1/2” x 8-1/2”Scored at 4-1/4”
Misty Moonlight card stock5-1/4” x 4” Mat for card face
Basic White cardstock5” x 3-3/4”  This will be embossed using the Stampin’ Up! Evergreen Forest 3D embossing folder.
Bumblebee cardstock1-3/4” x 5” Mat for DSP strip
DSP from Beauty of the Earth1-1/2” x 5”
Be Dazzled or Gold Foil  You need a scrap to die cut the maple leaf from the Stampin’ Up! Intricate Leaves die set.
Basic White Cardstock  A scrap that will allow you to punch a tag.

I started this card with a white panel that I embossed using the Stampin’ Up! Evergreen Forest 3D embossing folder to add texture to the card face.  Using the DSP strip from the Beauty of the Earth DSP pack, I adhered it to the Bumblebee cardstock mat.  This panel was glued to the embossed white cardstock panel and then mounted to the Misty Moonlight panel – and then to the face of the card.

Using the maple leaf from the Intricate Leaves die set, I used Be Dazzled Gold DSP and then inked the leaf with Stampin’ Up! Cajun Craze ink.  If you don’t have the Be Dazzled DSP, the Metallic Gold foil paper works very well too.  When I use gold foil cardstock, I usually emboss it with the Evergreen Forest because the pattern catches the light very well.  (Autumn should sparkle, after all!)

I then stamped the scrap of Basic White Cardstock with the “Grateful” sentiment in Misty Moonlight ink so that the blue in the DSP is highlighted.  Using a Blending Brush, I lightly (very lightly!) brushed the edges of the Grateful tag with Misty Blue.  I attached a tiny twine bow to the tag and adhered it to the card face.

The inside of the card was stamped with a sentiment from the Stampin’ Up! Peaceful Moments stamp set in Misty Blue ink.  I then “over stamped” it with the Gorgeous Leaves’ maple leaf stamp with Cajun Craze ink.  I’ve seen Mary Deatherage do this frequently on her cards – and I just love it!

And that’s it!

This card is in response to the Color Throwdown #668.

I love these challenges as they inspire creative thought.  When I first saw the posting, I couldn’t imagine how to get blue into an autumn color scheme – and then, voila!  Thank you so much for all of the work that you do at the Original Color Throw Down challenge! I appreciate your challenges – and your comments as you consider the designs for each challenge!
